Question by imisidro: How to use mobile marketing to reach your audience/customers?
Mobile phones are everywhere today and people almost always have their cell phones with them. Has anyone used mobile marketing to reach your customers? What do you think should be the factors to consider when using mobile marketing? What will work and what will not work -- especially from the perspective of the small business owner? Is it something that business owners need to try NOW or should small businesses let the big boys try it out first?

Actually, the only companies that use mobile marketing are the mobile networks. This is the case in my country. However, personally, and speaking as a consumer, I don't find mobile marketing very useful. Yes, it could be smart to reach audience directly through their phones, but it could also be very frustrating to receive messages that you don't basically need.

Moble marketing reaches out to a very vast number of people. And the only thing you have to focus on with your business is your target audience. Being very specific with your audience is much better than trying to barge in to people's phones. Mobile marketing is just like email marketing. Spamming emails is not very good strategy. Thus, the trend now in web marketing is to ask people's permission first before sending them e-letters.

Question by Abbie: How to get mobile notifications from certain users on twitter?
How do you put certain twitter users on mobile notifications so that as soon as they tweet it will let you know? I have an iPhone 4 so what do I need to do?

Best answer:

Answer by PerfectlyImperfect
Right next to the create a tweet icon is your display picture, @ username, and a little arrow. Click the arrow and select "Settings" from the drop down menu. Next click the mobile tab, there you can sign up for twitter text messages to be sent to your phone and you can select certain users tweets to be sent to your phone.

Another option is an app call "peep" you can enable it to give you notifications as well, I've also heard that "Tweet deck" works well too, but I've never used it so I don't know.

Hope I helped(:

Go to the website of your phone's manufacturer. Find the support section and locate the modem driver for your phone. If you were provided with a driver disk along with your phone, copy the modem driver from the disk onto your computer. If you were provided an executable file (.exe), a file that runs an installation program, then skip ahead to the "Creating the Connection" portion of this tutorial

Go into the phone's menu and activate the modem. Since activating the phone's modem function varies from phone to phone, consult your user's manual for instructions on activating the modem.

After the phone is set to function as a modem, connect the phone to the computer via the USB cable. You will receive notification from your computer that new "hardware was found." You will be asked if you would like your computer to find drivers for you phone automatically and you will also be given the option to specify the location of the driver. Choose to locate the driver and point the installation menu to the folder containing the driver.

Go to the "Start Menu" and open the "Control Panel." Once the "Control Panel" is open, click on the "Network" icon and, from there, select the option "Set up a Connection or Network."

You will be presented a list of different connection types, choose the option "Set up a Dial-up Connection." In the next window, enter #777 into the box labeled "Dial-up Phone Number." While the access number #777 works with most carriers, check with your carrier if you encounter access problems. You do not need to enter a username or password unless directed by your wireless provider. Create a name for your connection and enter it in the box labeled "Connection Name."

Click connect at the bottom of the menu. You should be authenticated and connected within a matter of seconds. If you need to reestablish a connection, your connection will appear in the "Network" menu inside of the "Control Panel."

Question by Ding: I want to sell mobile phone in Africa, anyone who knows the Africa mobile phone market?
I want to sell mobile phone in Africa, but I don't know about the market. Is Africa mobile phone market huge? And what kind of mobile phone do Africans like?

Best answer:

Answer by ToAfrica
Hi sir, this is for you "The Analysis of Africa Mobile Phone Market"

With the advent of the Information Age, mobile phones have swept all over the world which makes it very convenient for people to live, work and travel. Africa is one of the fastest-growing areas in the world of mobile phone market and the Africa market potential is huge. Since 2010, the number of mobile phone users has reached 506 million in African continent, and the average annual growth is still at the rate of 30% per year. The rapid growth of the mobile phones number results in disorder directly in the Africa mobile phone market which deeply harms the interests of dealers and consumers.

1.Copycat mobile phone, no-brand mobile phone and other low end mobile phone flood the Africa mobile phone market

By the features of low price, various styles, updated fast, the Copycat mobile phone, no-brand mobile phone and other low end mobile phone quickly occupied the Africa mobile phone market, especially in West Africa, Central Africa and East Africa market. These features just right fit many Africans’ consumer psychology like buying fashionable, fully functional, inexpensive mobile phone and showing off brand mobile phone. Because of African consumers’ low purchasing power and requirement of low price mobile phone, many manufacturers try every means to cut corners and then launch a variety of low cost but full-featured mobile phones. No quality guarantee and short life, the low end mobile phones are soon washed out of the market, however, manufacturers are uninterrupted launching unchanged kernel but more beautiful and more fashionable mobile phones to continue to occupy the market. Because of these low quality mobile phones, most of Africa phone dealers have lost their clients, it seems to be high profit but huge losses by overstocked poor quality mobile phones.

2.Africa local brand mobile phones struggle to develop

With the improvement of brand awareness, mobile phone dealers wish to make their market bigger and bigger so they begin to register their own brand one after another. But due to the lack of a high-quality supply, the blindly pursue of profit at the expense of quality, finally, these mobile phones were washed out of the market because the Copycat mobile phone damaged the interests of the consumer and lost their brand.

3.The market share of Global famous brand mobile phone is low

Because the expensive price is beyond African residents’ average consumption level, the market share of Global famous brand mobile phone is low.

4.Regional brand mobile phones will become main trend

Regional brand mobile phone is a new type cell phone which aims at Africa market. The manufacturers run their own registered brand, such as LEADDER. Their first duty is maintaining the brand's reputation. What’s more, they have their own professional QC team to provide mobile phone to conform the demand of Africa market. The type mobile phone doesn’t have varies of styles but the less style precisely proves its profession, just like IPAD which launches only one style per year. Only quality guaranteed mobile phone is the ultimate choice of consumers.

No quality, no brand; No brand, no future. Only by using supplier quality control system can dealers hold out the Africa mobile phone market for long time, have a stable customer base and finally achieve win-win. The operate mode which combines supplier’s brand advantage, quality control system with dealers’ on-line and offline sales channel is the future mobile phone sales trend in Africa.

How much should I pay for mobile marketing?

Question by edy m: How much should I pay for mobile marketing?
How much would you expect to pay for mobile marketing services if you have a restaurant and want to offer discounts to your clients through mobile marketing. Also letting them know about events. How much would a company charge on average and what would they offer?

Best answer:

Answer by Swf
Typically, I'd say most companies charge around £50-100 to set this kind of service up and there will then be a monthly charge of around £30 for a keyword on a 5 digit shortcode number. On top of this there will then be a charge for texts of around 5-6p each. Of course this is for a self service approach where you send your own texts. If you want a managed service then you'll pay considerably more - maybe around £150-200 a month - although i don't see the point in this personally.

I'd also suggest investing an extra £200 or so upfront to get a mobile version of your website so that you can include links in your texts which will go straight to your mobile optimised menu or table reservation page with click to call functionality enabled.

Of course, you could reduce the costs by not using a shortcode number and instead having a longcode number, but this would have negative implications on your opt-in rates (i.e. to opt-in your customers would need to text YOURBUSINESSNAME to 07123456789 instead of 54321).

Once setup you're probably looking at around £40-50 per month for a couple of SMS broadcasts a month (assuming a typical restaurant subscriber base of 200-300). So long as your texts offer value to your customers and are well timed, then you should be able to make 5-10 times that amount back.

One company I'd recommend you look at is LocalDirect - they specialise in mobile marketing for local businesses (as opposed to national chains), offer a free trial and their Mobile marketing guide is full of useful information for anyone thinking of giving mobile marketing a try.

In a couple of years time I'm pretty sure most local businesses will be using mobile marketing in some form or other but not many are at the moment so this is a good opportunity to get an advantage over local competitors.

How do I set up mobile marketing and mobile coupons with picture messaging for my small business?

Question by Jerrry S: How do I set up mobile marketing and mobile coupons with picture messaging for my small business?

Best answer:

Answer by Gary M
You can set up coupons with picture messaging at http://www.cellyspace.com. I recently started using it with my business and the mobile coupons have been really successful. It seems to have a better conversion rate than my print coupons because people have them on their phones wherever they go. With cellyspace you can create a mobile alert with your own unique keycode (Text MYBIZ to 33563) and place it on signs, ads, promotions, commercials etc. You can also place forms to get coupons and alerts on your website.
